This workshop will provide an overview of the gaps and challenges of providing good medical care for persons with dementia through primary care. The workshop will begin with an overview of what is known about methods for delivering education programs for primary care physicians and improving physician practices. Four nationally-recognized models of programs designed to improve primary care physician dementia care will be presented. Information about other physician education programs will also be provided through a materials table and selected presentations from representatives of NIA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers. A panel of physicians and other experts will consider the strengths of the models presented in curriculum content, dissemination strategies, and approaches to evaluation. The panel will conclude by making recommendations for further work that involves strategies with physicians at the local and national level. Models to be covered:
