Memory & Aging Project Satellite (MAPS)

The MAPS team includes:

A registered nurse

  • answers questions about health
  • helps locate a good doctor
  • teaches caregiving skills

A social worker/counselor

  • evaluates the situation at the home
  • helps find availalble financial support
  • recommends services and support groups

An occupational therapist

  • shows people how to remain active
  • helps with daily routines
  • recommends creative activities for people with memory loss

Because we are part of the Knight Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, our goal is to better
understand how Alzheimer's disease affects elders and their families. Our research includes:

  • how Alzheimer's affects the performance of eldelry African-Americans
  • how elderly persons use social services connected with Alzheimer's
  • how Alzheimer's affects families
  • the impact of Alzheimer's on the African-American community
  • how people with Alzheimer's can live alone at home
  • and what services are needed to live at home comfortably and safely
