People with memory loss might need special attention. Here are some ideas to help.

  • Keep them involved in daily activities.
  • Divide activities into simple steps.
  • Guide them with step-by-step instructions.
  • Let them do as much as possible.
  • Exercise together.

If they live alone:

  • Visit them several times a week.
  • Make sure they eat properly.
  • Clean their clothes for them.
  • Clean the house with them.
  • Make sure they bathe regularly.
  • Help them pay bills.
  • Call to remind them when it's time to eat and when to take medicine.
  • Written messages help them remember to take medicine and recognize objects.

Remember: You will never win an argument with people who have memory loss. They will understand you only if you explain, simply and clearly, why they should do something.
